Le Shopping

One of the joys of French living is the availability of fresh seasonal produce. Whilst French supermarkets offer good quality fruit and vegetables there is nothing quite like a traditional French market.

Coulonges sur l’Autize has a market on Tuesdays and Saturdays
Fontenay le Comte has a market on Saturdays.
Niort has a market on Thursdays and Saturdays

Local Boulangeries take it in turns to be closed for one day of the week, to avoid disappointment note that our local boulangeries are closed on these days:

• Le Busseau – closed on Tuesdays
• L’Absie – closed on Wednesdays – recently under new ownership and much improved! Currently our favourite for bread etc.

Local Supermarkets
Intermarche in L’Absie is a small but convenient (5 minute drive away) supermarket that has more than enough choice to keep you watered and fed.

Super U in La Châtaigneraie is our closest “large” supermarket. UPDATE – Doubt this would ever happen in England  but there is now a large Intermarche directly behind Super U and it can be accessed from the road leading into Super U.

Fontenay le Comte and Niort both have a choice of large supermarkets to choose from.
